Downtown – The Downtown Neighborhood Association declares it is closing down and the unification of Penn Quarter into one ANC (Advisory Neighborhood Commission) is a key reason why. The DNA accomplished much good for the downtown neighborhood when it was split into two wards and multiple ANCs. Farewell and thanks for the hard work! [Downtown Neighborhood Association]
National Mall – The National Park Service predicts that peak blooms for the cherry blossoms will be the week of March 26 to March 30. The Downtown BID is the organizing entity for the Cherry Blossom Festival events which run March 20 through April 14. The opening ceremony is on March 23 at the Warner Theatre. Mount Vernon Triangle – A new restaurant is in the works for the corner of 4th and I St NW called Alba Osteria. Roberto Donna (of Galileo fame) and Hakan Ilhan (of Al Dente fame) are behind this project. 180 indoor seats and 120 outdoor seats make this a nicely sized footprint for the neighborhood to our north. [Washingtonian]
Chinatown – We visited the Carving Room (Kitchen & Bar) at 4th and H St NW recently and enjoyed the visit (bar only). That space has been empty for eons so it’s nice to see another casual culinary option. [PQ Living Tweet] & [Thrillist]
Penn Quarter – The GSA receives strong interest from local jurisdiction for the proposed FBI move from its Penn Quarter headquarters (935 Pennsylvania Ave NW). Mayor Gray puts forward Poplar Point as DC’s suggestion to stay within the DC city limits. [WaBizJo] & [Washington City Paper] & [Washington City Paper – Op-Ed]
Penn Quarter – The ANC2C meeting is tonight, March 11, at 6:30 pm in the MLK Library (9th and G St NW), Auditorium 221. [PQL Intelligence Network]
Chinatown – The Verizon Center digital signs get the green light from the DC Council. [WaPo]
Downtown – Exercise Man, aka Cedric Givens, who we’ve reported on before gets profiled in the Washington Post Magazine. Well done! [PQ Living post] & [WaPo]
Recipe of the Week – Occasionally, we’ll feature a recipe of the week when we run Heard In The ‘Hood which will link to local restaurant recipes publicly available from websites. From Zengo’s (781 7th St NW) recipe homepage, we’re highlighting the Tuna Tataki Salad. [Zengo PDF]
Penn Quarter Crib(s) of the Week – Our Crib(s) of the Week simply note(s) that CityCenter’s condos are now on MLS demonstrating their pricing and condo fees. [1 BR 1 BA – #712 – DC8025253] & [1 BR, 1BA – #907 – DC8025261] & [2 BR, 2 BA – #510 – DC8025273] & [2 BR, 2.5 BA – #606 – DC ]
