Restaurant Week Turns Into "Weeks" And "Months" In Gallery Place

Posted by gpliving
August 10, 2006

Pqresident let us know that Restaurant Week (Aug. 14 – 20) is coming, but we’re seeing a trend that restaurants want more than just a week to share reasonably priced food with the masses!

Two examples:

  • OYA Restaurant & Lounge (777 9th St NW) is offering “restaurant week” lunches and dinners from August 1 – September 9
  • IndeBleu (707 G St NW) is offering the same “restaurant week” lunches & dinners from August 14 – August 27

Both restaurants are using the restaurant week pricing scheme: Prix-Fixe, Three-Course Lunch ($20.06) & Dinner Menus ($30.06).

We should note that IndeBleu has a different dinner menu for the second week of dining.

I support Restaurant Week for getting people excited about dining out in DC, and reminding them about places they’ve been meaning to try, etc., but I don’t get the whole “Oooh, it’s a bargain” angle.

I don’t normally spend $20.06 pre-tax&tip for lunch, including when I eat lunch on a regular day at these participating restaurants (it’s not like most of them are outrageously-priced restaurants).

The $30.06 might be a good deal for dinner, though. But the lunch price – not a bargain.

(I’m not saying the point of RW should be to get a bargain – I’m just saying I don’t get why people DO think that is the point. At least at lunch.)

While I’m not one to have a three-course meal at lunch, I challenege you to do so at most of these restaurants for less than $20.06.

You’re right, maybe that’s the key – I rarely if ever have a 3-course lunch.

This is outside of PQ, but 1789 also has an extended discounted dinner menu. According to Tom Sietsema’s chat this week, they’re offering a $35 three-course dinner until Sept. 13.
