Riot Act Grand Opening Tonight
Situated on the corner of 8th & E St NW, Riot Act Comedy Theater brings the world of stand-up comedy to Penn Quarter. We were fortunate to be able to enjoy a sneak preview of the space last night and can say that the two-story, 13,000 sq ft space (including 330 seat performance space and 2 bars) fits in very well with neighboring world-class arts spaces, like the Shakespeare Theater and Woolly Mammoth Theater.
Prices are reasonable (from $10 – $20) and the comedic talent is first class with the likes of Charles Fleischer and Rob Cantrell gracing the stage. Tickets can be purchased directly from the Riot Act’s website.
The general schedule of the Riot Act is as follows:
Tuesday: Open Mic in main showroom – the only local comedy club dedicated to giving comics a forum to work and create.
Wednesday: Theme nights that will cover everything from “Gay-Larious” to the “Geek Comedy Tour.”
Thursday – Sunday: Local and national headliners.

The space is wonderful — and the roster of upcoming comics looks good. The facility is flexible — I plan on using it for a special DC Shorts program during the winter, as at 300 seats, it is the largest rentable movie screen in the neighborhood.
