RSS FeedSmithsonian Installs New Outdoor Sculpture At 9th & F St Today! *pics*
This morning, officials at the Smithsonian American Art Museum will be receiving and installing the Roy Lichtenstein Sculpture which used to sit 1 block away from the World Trade Center in Battery Park City (NYC).
The sculpture, named Modern Head, will be installed (pdf) on the grounds of the museum’s main building at the corner of 9th and F St NW. It is on loan from the James Goodman Gallery and Jeffrey H. Loria & Co. Inc. in New York City.
We’ll update with pics throughout the day!
Update: Smithsonian officials said that, while this piece is technically on loan, there is no end date for the loan.

I noticed they had poured a concrete base, and did a little speculation about it in my blog. Thanks for finding out what it is! I’m not a big fan of modern sculpture, though, and would have preferred something a little more traditional, but that’s just me.
Frank: We had the same question! The Smithsonian says that there is no specific end date for the loan. It probably means that it will be here for quite some time!
Excellent, we should be able to enjoy it for some time. I like the size (it is up now, but not free of the sling) and blue is a favorite color.
It’s a great sculpture, but – perhaps – a bit marcabre? I remember seeing it in NY NY.
Are we ever going to see anything rebuilt on that site? This used to be a great country.

This is good. I looked up the piece on the Web and it looks interesting. As it is on loan I wonder how long we have to enjoy it.
