The Best Deal In Town
Behold the banana split. Delicious and nutritious (it contains potassium and calcium!) it is one of mankind’s greatest inventions. Despite the wonders that come from a banana split, few have mastered its creation. We in PQ are lucky however, living in the midst of a banana split making prodigy.
At least we assume it was a banana split prodigy who came up with the deconstructed banana split at Central. That Michel Richard really knows his desserts, and he does none better than this one. The chocolate ice cream is like frozen pudding, the vanilla is buttery and rich. Knowing that the strawberry ice cream is nobody’s favorite, they’ve instead made that a palate cleansing sorbet. The bananas themselves are coated in whipped cream which is then topped with pineapple and crunchy chocolate. On either side of the banana lie pools of delicious chocolate and caramel sauce.
“Sure,” you’re thinking “it’s a great banana split. But what makes it the best deal in town?”
We’re glad you asked (or thought it anyway). The banana split is the best deal in town because it is delicious, can feed three people, and is priced at just $11. Mind you, we’ve never shared it with three people, but that’s because we’re greedy gluttons.
There you have it, what we think is the best deal in town. Think we’re wrong? We encourage you to try it first, but also to tell us what you think beats the Central banana split.

I have tried Central’s Banana Split, and it is yum yum delicioso. It just doesn’t compare to Friendly’s out-of-the-can whip cream. It’s deconstruction at its best!
the “crunchy chocolate” is malt balls.
I think you are wrong — Central itself might be the best deal in town. You don’t realize it until you start eating at other restaurants and comparing the service and food quality.
My vote is for the CG burger at Chef Geoff’s downtown. During their all-day happy hour every Saturday and Sunday, the burger is only $6 (up from $5) and still a steal for the super moist, perfectly char-grilled, hand-patted burger you get (be sure to order it medium rare). Even better, they slather it with Chipotle mayo and add two awesome slabs of crispy bacon and a melting hunk of cheddar cheese. Do yourself a favor and wash it down with an $8, 32-ounce “supermug” of micro-brewed beer (also available all weekend long). It’s truly one of the best deals in town.
I’m sure this version is worth every penny, but for value you can’t beat $3 sundae Mondays at Giffords.
Anon 3:06: You are correct, that $3 sundae on Monday’s is a great deal. In fact it might have won “best deal in town” if there was any consistancy at giffords. While the ice cream is always good, the sundaes are different every time we get one. But on the Mondays it is made well, it is a fantastic deal.
This just makes me want a real banana split that much more. I think the whole “deconstruction” fad has run its course. Any day now, I expect to see a deconstructed burger served on three small plates (bread, burger, toppings) and you have to eat it with a fork. $39.95.
I believe McDonalds called that the McDLT, monkeyrotica. Of course, the sandwich only cost a couple bucks.
Gifford’s is my sworn enemy because the PQ location has been all out of Chocolate Marshmallow the last 3 times I’ve been there. Maybe if I eat my Central banana split loudly enough, they’ll be able to hear me at Gifford’s….
WTF?
When is $8 for a beer considered a good deal? Much less the best deal in town?
Even for 32oz. $8 is nuts, just like the rest of D.C. prices.
Thanks for the tip! I heard people rave about the kit kat dessert at Central and I wasn’t impressed but I look forward to trying the banana split.

Um, yeah, I think I’ll go to Friendly’s and save 50%.
