Posted by gpliving

VIDA Fitness (corner of 7th and F St NW) opens today – anyone have any first impressions?

Also with the fitness center opening, residents get a new Bang salon just steps from our homes.

I stopped by. From the downstairs it looks like they have a ways to go. But, I bet it is worth the wait!

I live at the Lafayette condos and since we have our own fitness center as well as being able to access the Clara Barton fitness center (on the other side of the huge condo complex) I could personally never understand the logic in having a glut of fitness centers in our locale.

why a “glut” of fitness centers? for one, the lafayette and CB are not public.

Vida is probably not trying to appeal to you.

Took a tour today. Swanky but bloated. Has enough diversions(health bar, haircuts, tanning, wireless access, Verizon Center video feed) to attract fat folks who want to do everything other than work out.

I joined earlier this summer and went today. They still have a lot of work to do — not all the machines were working, still work to be done in the pool/sauna area, and the computers at the front desk were not yet functioning. But it is a very nice, big, state of the art gym, and very competitively priced for this city. From the number of people there today, it looked like everyone was very eager for Vida to open.

In my opinion, it is much nicer than Washington Sports Club, and comparable to Results Capitol Hill (the locker rooms / wet area are not as nice as Results, but vida has better and more modern equipment). I’ve never been to Sports Club LA so I can’t compare to them.

By the way, I also have access to a fitness center, but joining a gym gives you access to yoga, spinning, and other classes, as well as steam, sauna, and pools. If you utilize those heavily, which I do, it makes a lot of sense.

Comment by Clara Barton Dweller on August 23, 2006 @ 10:33 pm

It makes sense to have gyms around here, especially if you want to take classes. Our building’s gym doesn’t have those. I belong to the Y so I can take step, hi-lo, kickboxing, water aerobics, etc.

Plus there are probably many people that work around here and want to go to the gym on the way home.

I actually joined Vida! lol.. im a slut for gyms what can i say?! I think i belong to them all..Variety IS the spice of Life! I hadnt heard any word from them but knew they were scheduled to open so i called
on Tuesday and they said Yep! 5am..doors will be open..and sure enuff they were (ok i didnt show up til 7am..) there are still more workmen than workouts inside. Some of the hardwood floors still need to be installed etc etc.. but they managed to plug in a few treadmills and the staff was super friendly. Later that night i noticed folks were getting new hairdos in Bang..sooo they made the opening deadline too!

I definitely recommend Bang. Great haircut at a reasonable price.

Looks like the constuction on BodySmith has started.
