Posted by gpliving
January 31, 2007

On 1/24/07, the HPRB approved raze permits for 627 H St NW (former China Doll building) and 629-631 H St NW (former Lei Garden building). Many will be surprised to know that neither of these two properties are on the Index of Historic Sites (pdf). Thus, the DC Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) approved the [...]

An anonymous commenter lets us know that there is a massive moving truck in front of the presbyterian church on 10th and G. It looks as if demolition will start soon…
So, we did a quick check to see where they are moving to. According to this FCCUCC newsletter (pdf), the church will be relocating to [...]

Posted by gpliving
January 30, 2007

Dana just posted a comment on the last post regarding Marvelous Market on the 700 block of 7th St NW.
Dana says: I just walked past Marvelous Market (on 7th) and it appears they have closed up shop. The shelves are emptied and they are moving stuff out. Did anyone know this was going to happen?!

Metro Tunnel Ads Getting Lazy?

Posted by gpliving
January 30, 2007

Has the novelty of the Metro tunnel ads worn off yet? It seems so at WMATA. The tunnel between Metro Center and Gallery Place features an animated ad for ABC’s TV show Daybreak. It’s been there for a while (since November?). But, the worst part is that the show has already been cancelled and isn’t [...]

Verizon Center Upgrade?

Posted by pqresident
January 28, 2007

We want to point out the recent WaPo story about Abe Pollin’s request to the DC government to fund Verizon Center upgrades. Notable is the disparity in the ticket tax between Nationals tickets and Verizon Center tickets, 10 percent versus 5.75 percent, and perhaps Pollin saw an opportunity to equalize the tax collected between his [...]

D’Acqua And Central Now Open

Posted by pqresident
January 27, 2007

The Penn Quarter restaurant count recently went up by two with the opening of D’Acqua and Central.
D’Acqua (801 Penn Ave, NW) is an Italian spot and PQ Resident popped his head in the place last night. The interior finishes are appealing and the menu (PDF) is fish oriented (we won’t say fishy). Washington restauraneurs Francesco [...]

Last Three Days For Washington Auto Show

Posted by pqresident
January 26, 2007

PQ Resident visited the Washington Auto Show last night at the Washington Convention Center, just a one or two stop ride on the Green/Yellow line from the Penn Quarter. The show is open tonight, tomorrow and Sunday and then you have to wait a year (unless you want to fly to Chicago in February). All [...]
