Komen Race For The Cure Runs Tomorrow
The annual Komen Race for the Cure benefitting breast cancer research will take place tomorrow, Saturday, June 6 on a course surrounding the National Mall. The home page and race course detail for the 5K race with an 8 am start is here and you can still register today at the Department of Commerce building. There is no late registration on race day. Artomatic!
We also have to mention that Artomatic is currently open, even though it isn’t exactly in the PQ. Many artists from the neighborhood will have their work on display (and for sale) at the 5 week long arts festival. More information is at Artomatic.org. The festival is located in the building directly above the Nationals ballpark metro entrance (Navy Yard metro stop on the green line)
Do you know of an event occurring in the Penn Quarter area this weekend that we should add? Please contact us or leave a comment on this post!
DC BID SAMs Leave F Street
The Downtown DC Business Improvement District (“BID”) Safety and Maintenance (“SAM”) team which has been at 1006 F ST NW for years, recently moved to a new location. The BID SAMs are now at 1229 New York AVE.
Is this part of the larger movement to develop that corner? As we’ve noted before (citing an Examiner article) the area is scheduled to house an 11 story building.
First the Waffle Shop left, then B & K Newsstand, and now the DC SAMs are gone. Is Joe’s Souvenirs at 10th & F the last holdout before a new project breaks ground at that corner?
Chinatown Arch Restoration Update
As we mentioned last week, DDOT was planning on blocking off portions of H Street to accommodate restoration work of the Chinatown arch. As you can see from the pic, jersey barriers have been placed on H St blocking only the bus stops/lanes. Of concern to PQ residents, however, is that DDOT seems to have focused more on commuter traffic patterns than they did the surrounding (sleeping) residents. With work hours of 9pm to 5am, and the arch being directly next to a condominium, time will tell if those work hours were really a good idea.
