Yes, it’s that time festive time of year again and it wouldn’t be downtown or the Penn Quarter if we didn’t have the downtown holiday market publicity machine fired up and running. Last year, this writer stumbled across some good finds for both the gals (stinky…I mean aromatic candles) and the guys (wood business card holders). There will be more than 100 exhibitors (including 40 local exhibitors) such as crafters of jewelry, textiles, cultural crafts, paintings, prepared foods, knits and more. Food will be available for purchase and live music will round out the atmosphere.
Vendors will set up in the National Portrait Gallery “Plaza” at 7th and F Streets, NW from December 7 through December 23, open Noon to 8 pm each day.
PQ Living was there last year and we’ll be there this year too looking for fun gifts. Come downtown and get some holiday cheer…see you there!

Soups, sandwiches, a salad bar, Gifford’s ice cream, espresso, and beer/wine grace the Kogod Courtyard cafe menu. The cafe stays open from 11:30am – 6:30pm in the wifi-enabled courtyard. For those who are interested, here is a pic of their current menu:
Downtown Survey Period Closing This Friday
Earlier this month we mentioned the combined effort of the Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA), Downtown BID, The Downtowner, Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association and BB & T Bank to get a good snapshot of downtowners. We want to remind everyone that the survey period expires this Friday so if you want to participate, there are a few days left to do so. (Note that this survey is not government sponsored nor is it an official census).
One question we’ve heard thrown around is “Does the survey apply to people who work downtown too?” The answer is “Yes.” If you live in town or in the ‘burbs, you might still work for outfits such as the Archives, Venable, Arnold and Porter, DOJ, GAO, The Smithsonian, AARP, IBEW, DC Central Library, one of the many restaurants or one of the many smaller businesses in the area – the survey does apply to you and your work colleagues. Workers need retail and service options just as much as residents and having quality information about a downtowner helps the “downtown coalition” attract those retail and service providers. (Needless to say, residents are also in the group of interest).
The survey can be found on the Downtown BID website, prizes will be randomly awarded to responders and the survey closes this Friday, November 30 at midnight.
Gallery Place “Score Boards” Already Malfunctioning + New Poll
It seems that we gave the new “score boards” at the 7th & H St NW intersection too much credit in our photoshop parody. The resolution is much much worse than anyone imagined, as if you’re staring at a TV 1 inch away from the screen. Not only that, but they are already malfunctioning after 1 week – notice the permanent black bar in the pic. By our estimation, the first malfunctioning board will be completely blacked out in 7 weeks – hooray!
