Has anyone else noticed that for the past 2 days, the Washington Monument lights have been malfunctioning? It’s kind of hard to tell from the pics, but trust us on this one.
Normally, there are 2 lights per side (four sides) that blink on and off. Well, right now, 1 light per side is stuck on. This isn’t the first time that the monument lights have malfunctioned.
Anyway, makes good info for a conspiracy theory.
8th Street To Get Striped (Pic)
It happened in the 80s and it will happen again in the 00s. 8th Street will be “striped” in association with the Colorfield remix project that runs this April to July. The Color Field art movement emerged in the 1950s and 1960s with abstract paintings containing large swaths of color on the canvas; Mark Rothko is one of the most famous artists of the genre with his paintings appearing in museums worldwide. Gene Davis, who taught at the Corcoran, is DC’s local color field artist done good and the 8th Street project will be an homage to his work. A black tie charity event, museum exhibits at all the big name halls, workshops and lectures all will happen in conjunction with the project – the schedule of events is citywide.

National Museum of Women in the Arts VJ/DJ Event Recap (pics)
We checked out the VJ/DJ event at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (1250 NY Ave NW) last night. Here are some pics we took! There was a strong international presence at the event where two of the performers were from Finland and Spain. VJ/DJ combos are very popular in Europe and just starting to take hold in the US.
Old Convention Center Site Construction Beginning? (pic)
Thanks to Boris and Becca for letting us know that the entire western portion (west of the Art Walk walkway) of the old convention center site is fenced off and has a construction trailer inside of the fence. (The trailer is at the corner of 11th and H St NW) Check out the pic!
- In Mayor Fenty’s 100 Days…..and Beyond: 2007 Action Plan for the District, there is an entry under the “Economic Development and Affordable Housing” section for a “Groundbreaking at old Convention Center site” to take place within 4 months of him taking office. Maybe Hines is getting started soon. And, only one-half of the master plan was approved to proceed by Williams just before he left office. This is the half below Eye Street.

While we still haven’t been able to confirm that this fence & trailer are related to the site redevelopment, we don’t know of any special events coming to the site that would require any kind of construction (like Cirque du soleil’s huge tents).
