As we were all busy discussing what may have caused Marvelous Market to close, one thought never surfaced during the discussion: an aggressive buyout.
This blogger has been notified of a discussion between the Marvelous Market manager and a neighbor that was in the 7th Street store hours before it closed. The manager was walking around with a clipboard and told this neighbor that the store was closing. The manager also volunteered that Marvelous Market was offered beaucoup bucks in a buyout bid by an entity that wanted the Marvelous Market space. Of course, details are sparse in trying to identify the buyout entity, but if this info is true (at least this info comes from a known reliable source), it may not be too long before we see that prime retail space filled back up!
Raze Alert! 627 – 631 H St NW (China Doll, Lei Garden buildings)
On 1/24/07, the HPRB approved raze permits for 627 H St NW (former China Doll building) and 629-631 H St NW (former Lei Garden building). Many will be surprised to know that neither of these two properties are on the Index of Historic Sites (pdf). Thus, the DC Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) approved the permits and the facades do not need to be preserved. As part of the HPRB process, the ANC (local gov’t) was notified by the HPRB, but we all know how useless our local ANC Chairperson (Doris Brooks) is when it comes to actually informing residents of important happenings.
The DC real property database was updated recently, so now we know for sure that Yeni Wong is the owner of the two buildings (the sales were kept private).

10th & G St NW Church Moves Out – Relocates to 4th & E St NW
An anonymous commenter lets us know that there is a massive moving truck in front of the presbyterian church on 10th and G. It looks as if demolition will start soon…
So, we did a quick check to see where they are moving to. According to this FCCUCC newsletter (pdf), the church will be relocating to First Trinity at 4th & E St NW. We know that a lot of residents are curious about the shift in location of the homeless population that usually loiters outside of the soup kitchen throughout the day. From the same pdf, it is stated that Meal Programs will continue in the social hall of First Trinity. But, will homeless from all other parts of DC still be bused into our neighborhood to utilize the soup kitchen?

Marvelous Market On 7th – Closed?
Dana just posted a comment on the last post regarding Marvelous Market on the 700 block of 7th St NW.
Dana says: I just walked past Marvelous Market (on 7th) and it appears they have closed up shop. The shelves are emptied and they are moving stuff out. Did anyone know this was going to happen?!
