Forever 21 Signage Goes Up *July 17th Opening*?

Posted by gpliving
July 10, 2010

Last week, PQL commenter MB tipped us off to some new signage on the Woodies building & future spot for DC’s first Forever 21 (1020 G St NW).  We stopped by and found additional signage also on the G Street side of the building.  If you look closely enough, you can make out a few large banner graphics inside the 2nd floor windows (which Forever 21 is also occupying).  It looks like the store will meet the expected summer opening time!

I’m eager to see what Forever 21′s opening will mean for foot traffic in the surrounding area. I expect (and hope) that this store will be far more successful than West Elm, convincing other retailers to relocate nearby. Forever 21 is also a nice complement to H&M and Zara. Although the Woodies building is now full, there are still so many vacant storefronts scattered around the adjacent blocks.

All hail the teen shopping district!

Here’s to that space forever being occupied!

We need some stores that cater to the people who live/work in the area. Club Monaco/J Crew or something with suiting/casual clothing would be great! I hear Guess isn’t doing well.

As far as the Forever 21/H&M/Zara…these stores are all in the same proximity to each other in San Francisco (Market Street/Westfield) along with a LOT of other wonderful stores and they do really well. Hopefully, this will help the growth of retail in this area beyond cheap teeny bopper clothing.

Should be open today, or at least a major chunck, rest will open later this year.

Anyone know whenthe F21 is opening?

Comment by DeeL on July 13, 2010 @ 11:21 am

The store will be open on Saturday, July 17th. I know one of the store managers.

I hope Guess doesn’t close. But it does look rather empty every time I pass by… an EXPRESS would do better downtown.

Thanks DeeL!

I’ve been to Guess twice — and both times I was the only person (other than eager employees) in the store. Those of us who live in and around downtown must support these retailers. That said, it’s too bad Guess doesn’t carry more work-appropriate attire. That would certainly help attract more people.

We walked by Forever 21 and observed workers working overtime in getting the flooring finished. The store is otherwise empty. A Saturday opening is aggressive, but still doable.

I agree, an Express would be great in downtown! However, JCrew is too expensive. We’ve already got a Banana Republic, and the Macys in downtown caters almost entirely to working professionals. The one in Pentagon City has far more ranges in prices, so I assume Forever21 do fairly well. H&M is almost always packed. The only problem I see with Forever21 is, living 2 blocks from Metro Center, I’m afraid it’ll turn into what ChinaTown has become: teen nation. Everytime I walk by there, there are extremely rude and loud teenagers, who never want to go home. They loiter and it can get a little hectic/scary.

I like Forever 21. You wouldn’t expect it, but it can be a good source of professional attire if you’re a woman with a slight frame. The blazers are nice and fitted, unlike the boxy unflattering ones you’d get at other stores (I’m looking at you, Ann Taylor Loft), and the quality is usually surprisingly good given the prices. Of course, you have to sift through a lot of crazy stuff to find these gems, but that’s part of the fun.

Does anyone know if Anthropologie is still planning to open on F Street?
