Wagamama (418 7th St NW) Updates DC Opening Date
Back in March we flagged that Wagamama, the UK-based noodle restaurant with an international footprint and three outlets in operation in the Boston metro area, was still planning to open in the old Olsson’s space at 418 7th Street NW. This space is the last vacant ground floor retail space in the 400 block of 7th St and the signage recently changed to now reflect an early 2012 opening. Our stomachs are looking forward to it!

Riot Act Grand Opening Tonight
Situated on the corner of 8th & E St NW, Riot Act Comedy Theater brings the world of stand-up comedy to Penn Quarter. We were fortunate to be able to enjoy a sneak preview of the space last night and can say that the two-story, 13,000 sq ft space (including 330 seat performance space and 2 bars) fits in very well with neighboring world-class arts spaces, like the Shakespeare Theater and Woolly Mammoth Theater.
Prices are reasonable (from $10 – $20) and the comedic talent is first class with the likes of Charles Fleischer and Rob Cantrell gracing the stage. Tickets can be purchased directly from the Riot Act’s website.
The general schedule of the Riot Act is as follows:
Tuesday: Open Mic in main showroom – the only local comedy club dedicated to giving comics a forum to work and create.
Wednesday: Theme nights that will cover everything from “Gay-Larious” to the “Geek Comedy Tour.”
Thursday – Sunday: Local and national headliners.
Beat the Heat: Poste Basil Lemontini
As the extreme heat continues, I’ve been asking the bartenders at some of my favorite local watering holes for recommendations for refreshing Summer cocktails that will help me stay cool.
First up, Poste Brasserie (555 8th St. NW) and what is quickly becoming my favorite Summer drink. The Basil Lemontini usually resides on their special house-made infusion cocktail list (if you didn’t know about this, be sure to ask for it next time you visit). Recently, they’ve added an almost identical rocks drink to their terrace drink list called Basil Lemon Punch. I prefer the martini version. The combination of basil-infused Ketel One vodka, lemon juice, and sparkling wine is light, tart and simply perfect for feeling refreshed.
915 F St NW (Platinum/Museum) Now In Jemal’s Hands?
We received a tip that 915 F St NW is now in the hands of local developer Douglas Jemal. A quick walk over to the location revealed a Douglas Development banner hanging from the building so we’re going to mark this tip off as true. A quick review of the building’s history reminds us that it’s had multiple names as a nightclub including The Fifth Column, The Bank, Platinum, Club Bounce, and Museum. For those who want to relive the Fifth Column days, there is a Facebook page for club alumni. We’re not sure what the next name will be, but we’d like to propose Downtownland. What one of a kind retail do you think would work in this space?
