Thanks to both Tavio and Sam for passing along word of major new developments in fitness centers around Gallery Place.
Tavio summed things up nicely:
According to Washington Business Journal’s latest edition, VIDA Fitness is moving into Verizon Center, taking the former Discovery Channel Store space. VIDA Fitness will be a 25,000 square foot gym to include a Bang Salon, Pro Shop, and Health Bar.
Additionally, a 3-story, 20,000 square foot fitness center called Body Smith will be opening in Terrell Place on 7th Street in June.
All-in-all, the Penn Quarter/Gallery Place neighborhood will have 4 large fitness centers within a few blocks of each other. (Washington Sports Club at Gallery Place VIDA Fitness at Verizon Center, Body Smith at Terrell Place, and YWCA Gallery Place Fitness and Aquatics Center.
In case you were wondering, Bang Salon is what GPLiving was referring to in the earlier Hip Cuts posting.
Gallery Square Info
GPLiving has done some research on the new 10-story residential building coming to Gallery Place and here are the results! The building, Gallery Square, will house 25 residential units and will actually be built on top of the Kam Fong Seafood Restaurant, not the CVS (801 7th St). The CVS at the corner of 7th and H St NW will be renovated to support 4 levels of commercial space.
There is a warehouse behind the restaurant and 801 7th St building that will house a series of 1 bedroom units. It also appears that there will be no parking underneath the building. Take a look at some pictures of the conceptual plans!
GPLiving was a little disappointed to find that the real estate on top of the CVS will go undeveloped. What do you think?

Matchbox plans to alter its restaurant. The space next door to matchbox pictured here (courtesy a9.com) looks set to become a new restaurant.

Update:
An anonymous reader points out that 711 H St is going to be expanded seating for Matchbox. I’m sure everyone who has eaten (or attempted to) at Matchbox will agree that this is a welcome development!
Gallery Place Experiences Signage-Switch
The MCI Center was officially renamed to the Verizon Center today last week. All of the labels on the glass doors have been changed to Verizon Center. One thing we’re unsure of is if the Chinese characters will change in the sign – but the orange lettering doesn’t really go with a black and red sign.
